My father & my 25 years in Tarbela Dam Services & Appeal to Chairman Wapda

Last updated on July 16, 2017

Tarbela Dam Ghazi Pakistan location and few pictures are added on my profile page. It is story of my 25 years stay in Tarbela Pakistan, job & vacancies. It describes my father Wapda job meritorious service record retired at Wapda house Lahore.

Tarbela Dam Pakistan is located at Indus river. Tarbela Dam is world famous Dam which produce hydro-electricity. Like in politics and other government departments nepotism is the strongest criterion of selection in Wapda. I could many examples which I know personally. It is of no use to mention all since almost all setup is like this. I never got any post on merit except after my Master’s degree during the year 1994. I was selected officer in Pakistan Navy and WAPDA. I was selected computer programmer in Navy special branch but I left Navy due to excessive ragging during cruel training. In fact, I was homesick too. When I reached Tarbela Dam, when Navy approved my resign, my WAPDA computer programmer post in WAPDA T.D.P P.M.O office was occupied by that time AD admin Ashraf son Asghar. I let WAPDA sanction this post after one-year efforts and finally it reached to someone else. My friend told that now he is in grade 18 living luxurious government home. My friend told me that once Asghar was suspended for some years for not being appointed in legal manner. But he took reinstatement orders from court with previous years salary. Wapda is good for those who tackle it through court orders. WAPDA authorities should care about deserving people.

My late father Jamil Ahmad Sheikh served WAPDA for 41 years, 3 months and 24 days. It was meritorious service. He joined Wapda on September 16, 1959 and retired on January 09, 2001. Unfortunately, he received pension for few years as he died on May 28, 2004. During his last years of service, he was transferred too many times. He spent 25 years in Tarbela Dam and was quite happy and set there. First, he was transferred to WAPDA Academy from TDP office, and then he was transferred to Power House office, then transferred to WAPDA House, Peshawar and after few years transferred to WAPDA House, Lahore from where he retired. None of his children including me was given WAPDA job despite Wapda employee’s quota rule.
He only took 50 percent commutation (term used in Wapda for pension deposit which employee can withdraw at once), so WAPDA is left with around Rs. 600,000 remaining pension amount. All documents are attached herewith. By these official records, Government employees salaries are increased manifold during last 16 years. My father last drawn salary, as per record was only Rs. 11,800. Now equally experienced person in grade 19 is taking Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 60,000 salary.
My father died on May 28, 2004 mysteriously. It was the day (May 28, 1998) Pakistan announced that it had successfully conducted five nuclear tests. I doubt any connection. During those days I was very enthusiastic Pakistani and favored nuclear test so did my late father. I doubt my father was murdered due to his property. My father was taking pension so his death in the age of 62 benefited WAPDA, who saved pension.
We use to live in WAPDA big bungalow, D-36, Mehran colony, Tarbela Dam, lived in that home for 20 years as my late father Jamil Ahmad Sheikh was Deputy Director Budget in WAPDA. I wonder why WAPDA did not appoint me as a principal WAPDA college as I was amongst one of the best of educated people who studied and lived in Tarbela Dam colony for 25 years. It was rural area as it was away from big cities though there were a lot of facilities like free home, free school, college, electricity and free hospital, free medicines and free transport for Wapda employees.

However, some unfortunate events happened in Tarbela Dam. My late father was WAPDA employee who retired as a grade 19 WAPDA officer. He served WAPDA for 41 years. Our family including me earned money from this remote and extremely productive hydro power project, Tarbela Dam. My mother died in WAPDA Hospital Tarbela Dam during the year 1984 when she was young woman in her early forties. I always felt pain on my mother’s death in such a young age. My 63 years old father, retired 19 grade WAPDA officer, mysteriously died on May 28, 2004 in his home located in Model Town, Lahore. He remained very happy and healthy in Tarbela Dam.
During the year 1991, I passed my B.Sc from WAPDA Degree College, Tarbela Dam which was affiliated with Peshawar University. I passed my Masters M.Sc during the year 1993 from Post Graduate College, Abbottabad affiliated with Peshawar University. Around fifty of my class, school or college fellows of Tarbela Dam are working on senior government officer posts in grade 19, grade 18 and grade 17. Even few of my students are government officers. These are those to whom I know personally. There are hundreds of other college fellows on senior government posts. Almost all of them were WAPDA employee sons or daughters.
I faced three death traumas during my life. My mother death in the year 1984, my son death in the year 2002 and my father death in the year 2004. My mother died in her young age, in her early forties. I still remember that on October 10, 1984, when she was admitted in WAPDA TJV hospital Sobra City Tarbela Dam, she died. There were no doctor in the hospital in the evening. Senior lady doctor Nargis Rouf came when called and took her to care room where she died. However, she used to treat people well in her Gynecological clinic. I write these things to realize how people without any influence die without proper medical treatment.
